So, I was in Toys R Us yesterday and I noticed just how much they had rearranged the video game section.
They also had an X360 set up for playable demoing. I saw some kid playing Call of Duty 2 on it...

OMFG wow. SMOOTH. CLEAN. CRISP. Very nicely done.
Of course, I would need to really see more content on it before I could tell all of what's what with the new console, but my first impression was "OMFG GEEK!"
And that ladies and gentlemen, is a good sign for things to come.

The big difference is that it's running at HDTV resolutions. PC games have been running at those resolutions (and higher) for years. So CoD2 on x360 doesn't look any better to me than CoD2 on the PC (or FEAR or Half Life 2 or...)
Many of the initial X360 games are cross-platform (CoD2, Madden, Gun) or ports from the PC (Quake 4). PGR3, Kameo, and PD0 are the big exclusives.
That being said, I'm not a naysayer - I suspect that the games that are released in about six months will really show off the power of the x360. But right now, other than PGR3, the console does not have it's Halo; there's nothing that really shows off how head and shoulders above the competition it is.

I won't get a new console until the PS# has been out for a few months at least, so I can really compare apples to apples.

I figure I'll get the x360 when I get an HDTV next year. Without HDTV x360 is at best an incremental upgrade from the x-box at this point.

Actually, the PS3 is promising one step more of HD support - 1080p vs. the X360's max of 1080i.

I remember when I first heard that I was all "boy, that's the quickest way to kill a system before it launches..."
